Self Work

Years ago, I would describe and publicize the process of working on myself via the moniker Being Present Works. The meaning points to the important  work we do on ourselves, on our bodies and minds.

This leads us to developing our birth potentials–the greatest of which is to awaken to our deepest nature, and to our inmost desire for harmony and well being. Of course at the same time it also suggests that being present is what actually works……

So. Being present works. It does. To get from here to there, it must be done. Of course it is ironic “there” turns out to be a smarter, richer more connected “here”. So really it is,  and it was,  going from here to here all along….

Either way however, to make a wise, powerful and harmonious relationship to this moment, to the here and now, to the present moment in time, to this moment, we are almost certainly going to have to work at it. We need to train this faculty. We have to make it absolutely conscious and real.

How do we do this?

Practice. By taking on practices that train us to consciously relate to the present moment. It is  usually difficult at first but it gets easier. With steady practice we learn what promotes being present and what gets in the way.

We then seek to emphasize and enhance what helps,  and we work to let go of what doesn’t. In time, our subconscious mind accepts our new way of being and we express ourselves in this new way, naturally and effortlessly.

Then, as we continue,  we learn to thrive in the power and enjoyment of the present moment. We discover that our natural presence is the key to everything wholesome and prosperous in our lives, and we become aware this is always the best and most primary work to focus on—- if we want to be truly fulfilled.

And happily, we notice that a skillful relationship to this moment also translates wonderfully to success in all the important areas of life: Health and well-being, career, creativity, relationships and spirituality.
